Dr Sophie Cabral

 

Sophie is an outstanding geography teacher and a committed professional in developing the practice of trainee, new and established teachers. She has worked in teacher training in different positions in a variety of schools/settings. Her experience is extremely diverse from working with trainee geography teachers in the UK as a Professional Coordinating Mentor to running workshops for teachers from across Europe and trainee teachers in Guinea Bissau, West Africa, running whole school Continuing Professional Development as an Assistant Headteacher in the UK and working with school leaders in a partner school in Pakistan. Sophie was successful in achieving the Professional Development Quality Mark Platinum Award for her current school.

Sophie has been a Head of Geography in three schools, successfully leading one department in the successful application for the Secondary Geography Quality Mark (Geographical Association). Her geography department was recognised as one of several inspirational departments from schools across the country for their work on Global Learning. Sophie also worked with the National Action Plan for Geography led by the Royal Geographical Society in the 2000s and has written articles for Teaching Geography Magazine (Geographical Association).

Sophie’s PhD was awarded by the Institute of Education, UCL. The PhD was based on Post 16 geography education in schools.
