Last year I trained to be a PE teacher through the Sutton School Direct programme. The Sutton SCITT gave me a hands on approach to teaching and allowed me to experience two extremely contrasting placement whilst observing outstanding teachers in both my subject area and other subjects. By following this route I was able to become a part of two school communities, I co-tutored a year 9 form group, ran extracurricular clubs and helped on various Drama, Dance and English trips. My first placement was at Glenthorne High School which is an outstanding school and gave me a high expectations from the word go. This benefited me significantly in my second placement as I could implement these high standards into my lesson. One of the fantastic things about the Sutton SCITT is that it prides itself on helping their trainee get a job in their schools. I delighted to be given a job at Glenthorne high school and now I am half way through my NQT year.
