Participant on Leading from the Middle and the NPQSL

I began my teaching career at Glenthorne High School as a Religious Studies NQT in 2009 and have been given amazing opportunities ever since. The NQT programme offered me support and a comprehensive course of in-house and borough-led training that really helped me to make the difficult transition from my PGCE course. In my second year of teaching I was appointed as Head of Religious Studies and later Head of Social Sciences in addition to a range of smaller responsibilities and opportunities. Throughout this time I have been given numerous training and CPD opportunities including the completion of a Masters in Teaching and Learning, a Middle Leadership Qualification and Mentoring with the National College and most recently the National Profession Qualification in Senior Leadership with the Institute of Education. The Alliance leadership courses have given me the opportunity to learn from those with great experience reflect on my own roles and build networks with colleagues in our partner schools. Glenthorne is a fantastic place to work as there is always a new challenge to undertake which is deeply rooted and fully supported by CPD.

Participant on the NPQML

I started my career as a GTP programme at Glenthorne High School. I had a fantastic training experience learning from experienced and outstanding teachers and colleagues. As a newly qualified teacher I was fortunate enough to gain a teaching job at Glenthorne and be offered a joint Head of Department responsibility. I worked as Head of department for 2 years before being promoted to Head of Year 7. My rapid career progression was supported by the Alliance leadership programmes which have been invaluable in gaining essential skills and knowledge such as building an effective team, coaching staff and managing systems. I would highly recommend the NPQML to all teachers who are in their first position as a middle leader or aspire to middle leadership.
