Stuart Godman

Alongside his work as the Subject Studies tutor for History as part of the Sutton SCITT programme, Stuart has fourteen years' experience teaching History in Sutton schools, seven years of which have been as the Curriculum Leader for History at Carshalton High School for Girls, where he is also a Lead Practitioner.  His role focuses on raising the quality of teaching and learning and on raising the achievement of students, both in History and across the school curriculum.  He is also an SLE for the Sutton Teaching School Alliance, supporting the development of History teachers across the borough and beyond.  Much of his work as an SLE has involved supporting the training and development of participants on the Teach First programme.

As a Lead Practitioner, he has a secure awareness of what constitutes outstanding teaching and a proven track record of supporting other staff in the development of their own practice.  In addition to this, Stuart has an interest in the use of technology to support students’ learning in History and to raise standards.  This has included creating and marketing his own GCSE History revision app through the iTunes store.  As part of his commitment to sharing good practice and working with colleagues to improve the quality of teaching provision in History, he runs his own website and twitter account @aheadofhistory where he offers a range of materials and resources tailored towards both classroom practitioners and middle leaders.
